A Brief History
I began writing and playing music at 16, first as a bass player and later as a singer-songwriter, studying music at Boston’s Berklee College of Music. After a few years playing in various bands in the Boston area, I began playing solo acoustic venues and started recording my first solo project, 1994’s “The Weather Prophet,” including some guest appearances by Corin Ashley of the Pills and Jude Crossen of Atlas Shrugged. Arranged to showcase an intimate, acoustic live sound, the CD nevertheless hinted at my roots in pop music.

This song, written by Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello, was featured in the movie "Grace of My Heart" and quickly became a favorite of mine. I was really disappointed to find out that the film version, a naked, heartfelt performance with just piano and vocal (vocals supplied by Kristen Vigard) was not included on the soundtrack, or available anywhere really. No disrespect to Costello and Bacharach, but I do not like their version - I know they were going for a certain time period for the film an all, but the arrangement was shmaltzy and very Bacharach. Elvis, while a great songwriter, is not the greatest singer, and frankly, it's too high for him. My desire to do this song was based on me wanting to recapture the feel of the version in the film, and make an attempt at singing a very difficult vocal. I decided to cut the second verse, just like the film version, and keep the tempo a little faster, again, like the film. This was also a challenge to my very limited piano skills. A good lesson all around, really. Hope you like.
